6 week Introduction to Somatic, Creative Practice (online)
What to ExpectA six-week introduction to somatic practice, offering a space to slow down, listen more deeply and develop a greater awareness of your embodied experience.
Through guided movement journeys, imagination, creative enquiry and reflection, you'll explore different ways of listening to what is happening within you; developing your capacity to notice sensation, impulse, feeling, felt sense and to become curious about what your experience might be telling you.
❋ Experiential PracticeEach week offers a guided somatic journey and space to explore through movement, sensation, imagination and creative enquiry.
❋ Developing AwarenessYou'll be invited to become more familiar with your felt experience; noticing what is present, what changes, and what becomes possible when you give your experience your attention.
❋ Movement and ImaginationMovement and imagination offer different pathways into experience, opening space for forms of knowing, creativity and expression that may not begin with words.
❋ Live group LearningThe course is limited to 20 people, creating a group small enough for live interaction, sharing, reflection and support. You'll have space to explore your own experience while learning alongside others, with practices to continue between sessions.
What you will explore in 6 weeks…
Week oneBone and Structure
grounding: support :orientation
Beginning with the skeleton as a place of orientation and support, we'll explore what it means to listen beneath the surface. What do we know in our bones? What kinds of knowing might be held in the body before they become words?
Through movement and guided enquiry, we'll explore bone, structure, weight and support, while beginning to develop a deeper awareness of our embodied experience.
Skin is our meeting place with the world. Through attention, breath, movement and self-touch, we'll explore the changing sensations of the body's surface and the layers of experience beneath it.
What happens when we become more aware of our skin, our shape and our edges? How does our experience of the world change when we bring attention to the body's surface: its contact, permeability and sense of boundary?
We'll begin to explore the relationship between self and other: how can I stay connected to myself and how can I be present with another without losing myself?

sensation: boundary: relationship
week 2
Breath is constantly moving through us, changing with our experience. Different ways of breathing can awaken different qualities of attention, feeling and presence.
Through breath awareness, movement and imagery, we'll explore the diaphragm, rib cage and the ways we may brace, hold or soften around the breath. What happens when we allow more space? What changes when we stop holding and begin to let go?
We'll explore breath as a bridge between conscious attention and deeper patterns within us, noticing how changes in breathing can shift our experience and open new possibilities for movement, feeling and expression.
Breath and Lungs
Space: Release: Softening
week 3
We begin by getting to know the heart as a physical presence in the body: its shape, weight, rhythm and movement within us.
Through movement, imagery and felt awareness, we'll explore the space the heart occupies in our bodies and our lives. What happens when we turn our attention back towards our own needs and the desires of the heart? What moves us, inspires us and matters to us?
An invitation to listen to the pulse of our inner life, reconnect with what nourishes us, and explore what becomes possible when we meet ourselves and life with greater care and attention.

Connection: Aliveness: Self-Care
week 4
The pelvis is the deep centre of the body, a bowl-like structure at the base of the spine, connecting the legs to the earth and giving us a place to orient from.
Through movement, sensation and imagery, we'll bring our attention into this often less-conscious part of ourselves. What happens when we bring awareness down into the pelvis and discover the support, stability and knowing that lives there?
Who are we when we are more fully connected to this part of us?

week 5
In our final week, we bring the threads of the journey together through the central axis; a line that runs through the centre of us and gives us a place to orient from.
Whether you experience this through the physical spine, through energy, or in your own way of understanding what moves through the centre of you, the central axis offers a way of naming and connecting the different aspects of our felt experience.
Through movement, awareness and creative enquiry, we'll explore what happens when we bring these different parts into relationship and allow a greater sense of wholeness to emerge.
Who am I when I am more fully connected to myself?
How do I orient myself in the world from that place?
This final exploration is an invitation to inhabit yourself more fully, to recognise what you have discovered along the way, and to begin trusting what emerges when you are more deeply connected to your own experience.

A six-week introduction to somatic practice for developing a deeper awareness of your own embodied experience — learning to notice what is happening in your body, to recognise sensation, impulse, feeling and felt sense, and to become more curious about what your experience might be telling you.
Through somatic movement, creative enquiry, imagination and relational practice, you'll develop your capacity to listen to yourself and respond with greater awareness and choice.
We'll explore how the body can become a resource for knowing, creativity and connection, and how paying attention to your own experience can influence the way you move through everyday life, relationships and work.
The course is designed as a space for personal exploration and development, while also offering an introduction to ways of working somatically that you may want to continue exploring in your own life or bring into your professional practice.
